I'm sorry to say, but unfortunately this BBQ place is not all that great. My wife and I went here today for the first time to get food for the family, (03/26/21) We were very excited to try the food. Sorry to say but I wasted $67.00 on food that we really didn't finish or actually like. This was a to go order. Our order is as follows:
1. Full rack BBQ beef ribs (1 out of 10)- Burnt to a crisp, spicy as hell-all bone hardly any meat.
2. Red beans and rice (9/10)- Good flavor
3. Fried green tomatoes (9/10) Good Flavor, little soggy, but good.
4. Cornbread "muffin" (7/10)- Sweet, good flavor.
5. Collard greens (7/10)- Good
6. Mac & cheese (2/10)- mushy, and runny
7. Brisket (4/10)- more like burnt ends small little cuts of brisket and only 4 cuts of brisket.
8. House Salad (3/10)- dry, they took a huge red tomato and cut it into a 3rd with dead "leafy" greens in it.
Customer service (10/10)
We will not be going back I'll pay my Mom, Granny, or my Auntie to make this food for me.

I'm never disappointed! Everything is beyond good. First off, the grits. They are the real-deal. Then the cornbread to whet your meal. OH MY. Big glasses of tea (southern or plain). The food. OH MY. Beyond expectations. They put a nice home twist on it all! Service? Outstanding. Price? Fantastic. Reward club? An added bonus. If you leave hungry, it's your fault. From breakfast to lunch -- a great place to hang your hat and have a good home cooked meal. Why are you reading this -- get up and go right now!

I've ordered from here since 2011. I've had food from their main Oceanside location, the location that used to be in... the Target shopping center across from Rookies, and the San Marcos location. I have also order Thanksgiving dinners a few times from the Carlsbad location. Over the past couple years the food quality has went completely down. They switched up round cakes to flat square cake and there is a very noticeable difference in the recipe. The new way they make the cakes are so nasty. I used to stop in just to get a piece of kiwi lime cake nearly every week, now you couldn't pay me to eat that disgusting cake. After numerous noticeable changes in food quality I stuck to just ordering gumbo. The gumbo was delicious! But the last 2 times I had it the gumbo was disgusting. I ordered $45 worth of food last week. The gumbo tasted HEAVILY of tomatoes and bland seasoning. I ordered the new red snapper fish and the fish had NO seasoning, not even salt! I was fed up because this wasn't the first time I've ordered from Felix's and the food was uneatable. I called and complained because they got me for $45. The person who answered the food said it was probably just a new cook and she'd let the chef know the issues. Not good enough, I asked her to have a manager call me back. I would have GLADLY brought the food back because I wanted a refund. She took my info but I never heard back from them. It is a shame that a Black owned restaurant who started out with savory and well seasoned southern foods has decided to go bland to meet the taste of non-Black people. This is why Daruis Cooks rated you guys so poorly. You no longer have authentic standards for real southern food and ZERO consistency on quality. I ordered gumbo from the Cheesecake Factory the next day, and although it wasn't close to authentic, it was 100% better than yours. I doubt my one opinion will matter much to you but I am extremely disappointed in this business. I hope the location you are planning to open in SD caters to Black People because the Black owned businesses in SD actually make authentic southern food and you've proven to be unreliable in that regards.read more

After they sit you they bring you a basket of delicious corn bread muffins with butter. They have a lot of Louisiana... style food on the menu. I had the Fried Cajun catfish with a seafood Cajun sauce that had crabmeat, crawfish, and shrimp in the sauce. It was delicious.read more

Absolutely LOVED their key lime cake ♥️ the ribs were good and flavorful but could have been more tender.... Fried green tomatoes were delicious, i will order those again! Cornbread was ok, the pasta was delicious. Peach cobbler was also good, I loved it, not too sweet. Overall yes I recommend. I had a good meal!read more

I have NOLA & Texas ancestry & this is by far The best Soul Food in town. Defeats local competition. Who will remain... nameless. From the southern hospitality from the gentleman who greeted us right down to the fresh, Clean well prepared, finger licking; fried chicken, beef ribs, black eyed peas, Yams, red beans & rice, corn bread, etc. Oh so good. We will make another trip from Murrieta, Ca. - Bear Creek again & again to eat this scrumptious from the heart soul food. Keep doing what you are doing it is Fabulous!read more

there really isn't anything I don't LOVE about Felix I've been a fan for years and although I've relocated back to La... county I often find myself at Felix when I'm in the area.
the Sunday brunch options wasn't a thing when I was local but in my back in forth trips was able to catch it a few times and it didn't disappoint.
for breakfast you can't leave without trying their salmon croquettes.
my daughter loves their chicken and waffles.
my son loves the ribs.

Great tasting food, friendly staff and the only complaint I have is I can't eat everything on the menu!!! At once!!... Someone told me there were Ham Hocks hiding in pots.
